Dental implants are our standard of care for replacing missing teeth at Focus Dental Group. The goal of tooth replacement is to restore both the function and appearance of your tooth. Dental implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth and restore a beautiful smile. A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jawbone beneath the gum line, allowing our dentist to mount new teeth or a bridge in that location. Dental implants also enhance general oral health since, unlike bridges, they do not need to be anchored to other teeth.

Types of Dental Implants

Endosteal Implants

These are the most prevalent types of dental implants and are generally recommended for the majority of patients. They are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jaw bone. Once the gum tissue surrounding the dental implant has healed, a second procedure is required to connect the implant’s post (abutment). Finally, an artificial tooth (or crown) is placed on the post extension. You must have a strong, healthy jawbone to have these implants placed.

Subperiosteal Implants

These implants have a metal frame and are an alternative to endosteal implants, however, they are not as frequent. They are implanted immediately below the gum tissue, on the bone rather than in the bone. The frame eventually becomes attached to the jawbone. After that, the false tooth (or crown) is screwed onto the post. Patients who have a weak jawbone or do not have adequate jawbone space for an implant might consider this type of implant.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Candidates should have healthy gums and have enough bone to support and secure the implants. Even if your jawbone has deteriorated, you may still be an excellent candidate for implants. Dental implants may be advised to avoid additional bone loss. In some cases, bone can be repaired as part of the implant process by grafting operations.

Benefits of Implants

People are self-conscious if they have missing teeth. With an implant, you should be able to regain your confidence, whether it’s in your smile, how you eat, or when you speak. Implants can last as long as natural teeth if properly cared for. If you wish to avoid inflicting any damage to your existing teeth, implants may be a better option.
